Introduction to Parts Work (IFS):
Cultivating curiosity and compassion for your inner world
As humans, it can be difficult to navigate our inner world of thoughts and emotions. At times, it can feel messy. Our minds may be a jumble of self-criticism, blame or doubt; or our body is gripped with tension or anxiety. We crave a sense of calm and clarity.
Take a moment to pause. Think of a time when someone greeted you with gentle curiosity, just as you are, messiness included. Does it bring a sense of ease? Parts work, in the tradition of Richard Schwartz, offers a simple, yet potent pathway to do this for ourselves. The fruits of our labor are greater wholeness, self-compassion and skillful tools for navigating challenging emotions. Come join me for a two-hour intro to get a taste of this work that has been life changing for many people.

- While parts work can lead us towards a greater sense of calm and clarity, it can also make us feel uncomfortable at times. This workshop may touch upon vulnerable places and catalyze the movement of challenging emotions or sensations. It can also be mind-opening in a way that can be temporarily disorienting. These things are part of the process of healing, but don’t always feel great. I will be incorporating tools for emotional regulation such as grounding and breathing, but it’s also important to come with one or two skills for regulation already in your back pocket, for example; journaling or taking breaks.
- Also, please know that this workshop is not a substitute for mental health counseling. If you are in a crisis, please seek professional support.
- Participants are required to be respectful of others, curious about other’s inner worlds and be able to listen without interrupting.
