An Embodied Approach to the Enneagram
with Mandy Snyder & Hazel Turrone

"Until you make the unconscious conscious,
it will direct your life and you will call it fate."
     -Carl Jung.

The Enneagram is a potent map for self-discovery. With ancient roots and modern influences, it is an elegant system that nudges you towards greater compassion for self and others. Most teachings are done through readings or talking, but another depth of exploration and understanding can open up when we animate the types.

We invite you to explore it from a somatic approach! Through the body, we can touch our subconscious where transformation stirs.

Who’s this weekend for? This weekend is for Enneagram enthusiasts and newbies alike. It is for people who desire breakthroughs around old patterns and those who love gaining tools for understanding themselves and others. It is also for those who enjoy relational play and exploration.

What will we do? We will hone into the essence of each type using movement, sensory awareness, and guided meditation. What’s it like to send your energy forward as you enter a room, like the Boss (type 8)? How is it to center your energy in your head and relate to others from a distance like the Observer (type 5)? When you tune into your heart space and ask, “how are people doing?” “ Do they like me?”, we can embody the experience of the Giver (type 2).

Through the three centers of intelligence: the body, the heart and the head, we’ll get to know the types associated with each center, including their shadow aspects, strengths and how to bring them into balance. Embodying each type allows us to stretch past our normal ways of being and can provide support in your journey towards greater self-acceptance.

Also, each person has an opportunity to get to know a type better. It doesn’t need to be your own type. The invitational questions will include: What types do I feel resistance to or curiosity about? Can I stretch myself? For example, can I allow myself to try on being big and taking up space like the Performer (type 3)? Can I bring order to chaos like the Improver (type 1)?

Through simple rituals, games and movement improvisations we will engage with others, learning through relational play.  We will end with time for reflection and integration.

This workshop is an opportunity to:

-Play with other fellow-travelers on the road to self-discovery
-Learn an embodied and depth-focused approach to the Enneagram
-Increase understanding and compassion for others
-Nurture greater inner curiosity and self-compassion.
-Co-create rituals for healing and transformation

Prerequisites:

-Acquaint yourself with the 9 types through readings or websites. We will also send a pdf to read.
-You have considered what type you are. It’s okay if you’re not sure!
-The Enneagram can comfort and discomfort so please come with one or two self-regulation skills and understand this workshop may stir up feelings.
-You are curious and open to learning about yourself and others.

These workshops are co-facilitated by Mandy Snyder and Hazel Turrone. Meeting through contact improvisation dance, they share a love of self-discovery, play and mind/body/spirit integration.

About Mandy Snyder:

Welcoming ourselves, as we are, sets the stage for profound healing and Mandy Snyder is passionate about creating spaces to do this type of soul work. As a somatic healer, she meets with clients individually and facilitates workshops in embodied self-discovery and expressive arts. She draws from training in Somatic Experiencing, Parts Work (IFS). She stumbled upon the Enneagram in 2002, pulling the strange sounding book off the shelf, and opening up a path of uncomfortable, yet joyful transformation. A committed student of this beautiful system, she is excited to be co-creating an embodied learning labs with Hazel.

About Hazel Turrone:

Hazel is a trauma-informed, collapse-aware, intuitive body-centered holistic health practitioner, ritualist, community organizer, dancer, mediator and facilitator living on the unceded land of the Abenaki in Vermont. They are dedicated to embodied liberation - dismantling the entangled layers of generational trauma, systemic oppression and our socialization so that we can reconnect to the relationship with our body wisdom, each other and the land.  She is passionate about the transformative potential of play, challenge as opportunity and the power of curiosity.

She believes that, like the mycelial web that is at the root of a healthy forest ecosystem, cultivating healthy relationships is essential for healing, creating radical change and surviving in these times.Hazel was an Enneagram skeptic who didn’t think she could be squeezed into one of the archetypes.  She dared Mandy to try.  Playful interactive explorations ensued, including a spontaneous embodied interactive playful dance which seeded the conception of this workshop.Over 30 years of wanderings, wonderings, training and experience have been woven into Hazel’s offerings which are rooted in Intrinsic Liberation.
