Somatic Coaching Sessions
Do you feel stuck or overwhelmed?

Do you live with persistent anxiety or depression and want peace of mind?

Would you like to cultivate compassion towards yourself?

If so, I invite you to explore Somatic Healing.

Somatic Healing sessions are powerful opportunities for transformation and insight. They combine deep listening, so you feel seen and heard, with energy healing and somatic (body-based) approaches including sensing, simple movements and touch. As each session is unique, they may also include sound healing, dream analysis, healing rituals or creative expression.

The two main modalities that I draw from are Somatic Experiencing, a science-based trauma resolution and stress management approach, and Internal Family Systems, a therapeutic approach that empowers people with tools for Self-healing.  These approaches are synergistic, gentle, and powerful.

Sessions help you to heal emotional wounding, resolve traumatic experiences, and break away from unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. You create new and empowering life narratives to take you in the direction of your heart's longing.  I gently guide you in a process self-discovery so you can hear the voice of your own soul.

As we work together, I teach you simple and effective practices for emotional wellbeing and nervous system regulation so you can learn how to manage stress responses and cultivate greater joy.

Sessions can happen in person or via video or phone. Most sessions, take place seated, but some are done with a massage table (clothed), or in a large room with space for movement. Sessions can also take place in nature which is useful for expressing loud emotions. Each affords different opportunities for healing.  Together we co-create an experience to meet your unique needs.

What's it like to work with me?

I bring warmth, curiosity and sense of play to sessions.  It is my goal to orient you towards what is supportive and what feels good, especially as we address challenging material. My greatest gift to you, I believe, is an unwaivering compassion, gleaned from my own journey living with health challenges. I offer you this caring attention and help you to nurture your own capacity for self-love.

Is this work for me?

You will thrive in this work if you are committed to growth and ready for change. You have a desire to know yourself and have a passion for truth. You wish to be met on the level of body, mind and spirit, and you feel a hunger for more meaning and magic in your life.

It is important to know that this work does take courage. As is the nature of any healing process, we must greet the painful parts of ourselves and this is not always easy, but the benefits--enhanced joy, peacefulness and strength, among them-- are worth it. Also, I help to create a healing journey that is gentle and loving.

I help people with:

*  Fear.
*  Anxiety.

FAQ's
How do Somatic Healing sessions compare to other therapeutic forms?

Talk therapy is the most familiar way of getting support for life's emotional challenges. Somatic healing has some similarities, but many important differences. Both are great options, it just depends on what you are looking for.

Sessions are similar to talk therapy in that I make a space for your feelings, hopes and desires. I help you to feel understood and highlight your strengthens.
It has some similarities to Dance Movement Therapy, because I offer the option to use expressive movement to help to process life experiences.

But sessions are different from mental health counseling in that I don't diagnose or treat mental illness. I don't offer analysis of your experiences or give you theories for understanding the workings of your particular psychological, family and relationship dynamics.

My work stands alone as a healing modality, but it can also be used as an adjunct for people who are currently in talk therapy.  For some people, engaging with the body in a therapeutic process helps them to process feelings and experiences that they cannot process by talking alone.

How is the touch (which is always optional) different from the type of touch used in massage?

The touch used in massage is designed for relaxation, relieving muscle tension and/or recovery for injury or illness. Most often it is done without clothes and with the use of oils.

In my work, touch is always offered with clothes on, uses no oils. It serves a few of purposes. The first is to help you to feel comforted and reassured--as you might feel when a caring friend places her hand on your shoulder. Another aim is to support the process of re-inhabiting places in your body where you feel a sense of tension or disconnection. My touch amplifies your own awareness in those body areas.

Also, touch can be used to bring specific healing experiences. For example, if you don't feel supported in life, having somebody place a hand on your back helps you cultivate feeling supported.

Can you tell me more about the practices that you use?

I draw from three primary practices: somatic (body-based), energy wellness and deep listening. I describe them in more detail below.

Somatic (body-based practices):

Living in a body is not easy. We tend to dissociate from our physical form, and when this happens, we become anxious and disconnected from others. Like a tree being dug up by its roots, we feel ungrounded. In our work together, I help you bring awareness back into your entire body. We move gently and slowly, using breath awareness, sensing, movement and touch (when in-person) to re-inhabit yourself. Using these tools, stored pain and trauma can be released. This process takes strength and patience, but it has many rewards. You become more relaxed and resilient. You are able to access your own wisdom and intuition. You can find your grounding once again.

Energy Wellness:

If you don't have a daily energy wellness practice, you are missing out on an essential part of self-care. Even just five minutes a day can be a game changer. It certainly was for me! We are energetic beings, and our energetic anatomy needs nourishment just as our physical anatomy does. Drawing from ancient and modern energy wellness techniques, I teach you energy wellness exercises, many of which can be done lying down. These practices strengthen, soothe and energize both your physical and your energetic bodies. These practices are especially important if you are a highly sensitive person, because they help to clear other people's energy out of your space. As we work together, I teach you about your energetic anatomy and how to create healthy boundaries. You learn energy healing tools to transform painful emotional states into states of greater ease and joy.

Deep Listening:

We all long to be heard. The gift of deep listening is so healing. Our experiences are validated, and it provides us with insight and perspective. In our process together, I offer you reflective listening. You learn to welcome even your most difficult feelings—including fear, grief, loneliness and shame—so that you can discover their deeper messages. And most importantly, you learn how to listen to your own voice by staying connected to your own inner witness. You discover how to stay centered, feeling the ground beneath your feet as these emotions move through you. While this process can feel difficult at times, you can gain so much. Clarity. Purpose. Self-Compassion. Deep listening gets you in touch with our desires. Once you know what your needs are, you can set goals and intentions to create the life that you want.

Can you describe what sessions are like?

We begin each session with grounding and relaxation practices to help you to start the work from a centered place. Then we resource, which is the process of connecting to feelings of nourishment and support, and can include working with breath, intention, and visualization.

Then we move to the heart of the work which is a space of deep listening so that you can share what is arising for you.

The process of
"deep listening" is inspired by Internal Family Systems, the work of Richard Schwartz, also known as "Parts Work". It is a process where we learn to attend to all aspects of our self from our own inner witness, referred to as "Self."  We may explore current concerns or experiences from the past. As you share, I help you to stay present in your body, using sensing practices, breath awareness, touch and/or movement.

In our work together, you learn how to cultivate a strong inner-witness who is compassionate and calm. You learn how to listen deeply to yourself. This gives you a strong foundation for self-healing.

I help you to identify areas where you are blocked and show you how to open them, using embodiment practices and energy healing techniques. Over time, you discover how to shift out of painful states of being and discover ways to move into greater states of ease.

At times, we will clear out deeper levels of trauma and emotional wounding, and for this, having a caring presence is essential. I hold a space of acceptance and welcome all that is within you--your grief, your rage, you fear. I usher in your tears, tease out your stories and help to draw out the strength and joy welling up within you. I assist you in releasing trauma that is bound up in your tissues and support you in creating new and empowering narratives for your life. Movement is a powerful alley in this process, helping you to shed the residues of pain, and allowing you explore new ways of being.

Session can be done by phone, video or in-person. If sessions are done in person, I also offer supportive touch to bring you comfort, encouragement and to help to focus your awareness.  I have worked with touch for over 20 years, and bring a refined ability to attune to you. Caring touch is so nourishing. It meets the need deep within us to be held and accepted just as we are, in our being.

This work is powerful and transformative. It is important to know that it is not always easy, and at times it does take courage. The benefits are great, though: You gain inner-strength and abiding joy. You can become more relaxed and resilient. As you settle into your body, it is easier to hear the voice of your spirit and your intuition. To support this process, I invite you to express yourself creatively through writing, drawing and/or voice.

Sessions vary from one to the next. For most sessions, you will be seated, but at times, especially for in-person sessions,  you may be lying down, standing or moving/dancing through the space. Some sessions involve a lot of taking, while others may be more silent or be dedicated to you having time for creativity. Together we see what is needed and co-create an experience to help you to feel more rooted and free. While each session is unique, what remains the same is a commitment to coming into the present moment and to greet all that arises with kindness and curiosity. As we do this, you come home.
