Growing in Compassion:
A Transformational Journey with Somatics & Parts Work (IFS)
Compassion is a powerful elixir that deepens our breath and nurtures a sense of belonging. We can choose to cultivate it.
In this unique class, we explore doorways to compassion. Drawing inspiration from Internal Family Systems (IFS), also known as “Parts Work,” we tend to the voices and emotions that live within us. When we listen, really listen, these “parts” let down their guard, release their pain, and express unmet needs. They become allies.
Each session begins with a grounding practice to feel the support of the earth, our breath and the community container. After a short check-in we get curious about the inner landscape. What parts are here? What are these parts wanting and is there anything that we can do to help? We offer them compassion and explore the blocks to compassion as they arise. Somatic practices are woven throughout, such as breath awareness, touch, and expressive movement to build a sense of inner safety and ease. Along the way, we practice trusting our impulses and intuitions. We use writing, drawing and sharing to help us integrate experiences.
As we journey through the personal work of embracing all parts of ourselves within a community setting, we create even more possibilities for growth and heart opening. Together, we will soften into our humanity and a deeper sense of belonging, to ourselves and one another.
On this journey, you can discover:
- Tools for emotional healing & nervous system regulation.
- The power of giving & receiving compassion (co-regulation).
- Skills for melting judgement and resistance.
- The wisdom and power of attending to our bodies’ messages.
- Techniques for Self-healing.
This class is for may be a good fit for you if:
-You enjoy learning about yourself and others.
-You have a few self-regulation tools already, but are curious to learn more.
-You seek skills for navigating anxiety, depression or overwhelm.
-The voices and emotions within have been very loud and you want time to listen.
-You can attend to others with curiosity.
I don’t recommend this group if:
-It is hard for you to refrain from interrupting others.
-You get very easily triggered and have difficulty returning to your center.
-You are undergoing an acute crisis, and don’t have outside support.
-It is very challenging to attend to your body sensations. (It’s fine if this is a growth edge, but it is helpful to have some capacity to notice your body).
It is important to note that I am not a licensed mental health counselor and this group should not be used as a substitute for mental health counseling. If you are struggling with serious challenges in your life, then it’s a great idea to be working with a counselor. This class can be used as an adjunct. If you are thriving in many areas of life, this group can be used as a way to deepen your compassion and self-understanding. Also, this group is not an IFS sponsored group and is not a substitute for their formal training program.
If you are not sure if this is a fit, please send me an e-mail and we can have a conversation to find out.
